Hi all. I'm an undergraduate 3rd year psych student in Sydney. I'm planning to pursue a clinical path later on, and I lean towards the more "science-y" side of psych - I love neuroscience, biopsych, pharma, etc.
I'm happy I found an Antipodean psych community, and I hope some of the members are still active :)
Current Mood: working
I'm still here! I wish this community was more active though. It'd be awesome if we could build it up a little. Hopefully you post sparks some discussion cause I haven't seen any in here in forever.
That would be great - I will be posting some questions etc in here so hopefully other people stop by once in a while too.
Are you in undergrad or postgrad atm? Do you have area(s) of interest?
I'm doing my doctorate of clinical psychology - it's hectic as all hell. The most difficult thing that we've all had to come to terms with is that A PASS IS GOOD ENOUGH! We were all massive nerds who aimed for straight HD's to get here, so it's definitely hard to let go of it and realise that client's always take priority over assignments.
I have a keen interest in schizophrenia, personality disorders and trichotillomania/dermotillomania.
I desperately hope this sparks some conversation in here :)
Hehe! I think I will have trouble with that myself when the time comes, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, plus getting into Hons and p/grad is based on (high) marks, which doesn't help matters.
I'm aiming for a DCP as well, although a combined M/PhD degree seems to cover all bases (i.e. if you get sick of clinical work you can get into academia). I'm not sure yet.
I like your interests :) I'm most interested in physiological markers of psy disorders, for example markers of PTSD. But I also like psychopharma and cognitive neuroscience. I'm about to start work on a project looking at eating disorder interventions, which I also find interesting.
